Introduction

Starting kitesurfing can be both exciting and a bit daunting. This overview helps you understand what to expect from your first kitesurfing lessons, making your experience more enjoyable and less intimidating.

Preparation and Equipment

Before you hit the water, you’ll get acquainted with the gear. This includes a kite, bar, pump, and board. Additionally, your personal outfit will consist of a wetsuit, impact vest, harness, and helmet. Your instructor will explain how everything works and why it is important.

Land Training

Your first lesson usually begins on land. You’ll learn how to prepare your kite equipment, choose the right kite size, understand which wind directions are favorable, and practice basic kite control. This is crucial for your safety and control, and necessary to safely get on the water. If your lesson location allows, it is also possible that you might start directly in the water. The subjects you learn will remain the same.

Safety Instructions

Safety is a top priority in kitesurfing. Instructors teach you about safety systems, emergency procedures, and how to avoid common hazards. This ensures that you know how to kite safely and respond well to different situations.

Water Training

Once you feel comfortable on land, it’s time to get into the water. Here, you practice body dragging, where you use the kite to navigate through the water, initially without the board. This helps you get used to controlling the kite in a water environment.

The First Water Start

After mastering body dragging, the next step is getting out of the water onto the board. This requires good coordination of the kite and the board, with timing being very important. This phase requires patience and a lot of practice, but it gives you an enormous thrill when you succeed!

Conclusion

Your first kitesurfing lesson is a mix of theory, safety, and practical exercises, all designed to gradually build your confidence and skills. Embrace the learning process, stay patient, and enjoy the ride.
